Suspending time in mid air

(Click on the above image to see the Complete picture)

Ali gave me this clock on my birthday, it has an oscillating wand with lights that goes back and forth to display messages and time in mid air.

Must be an amazing sight! If you don't mind, I have some suggestions to improve the effect of this photograph. See if you can get a different point of view, preferrably a low angle. It would have been nice to have a foreground object to give the subject perspective. Having said that, how do you capture something that probably fluctuates considerably and is a projection lacking the physical characteristics you associate with solid objects?

I really like the idea behind it and would be interested if you perform further experimentation with this concept.

It is very difficult to capture the numbers at they appear because the auto focus does not work with fluctuating numbers and I had to manually focus it.

I can't seem to be able to perfectly focus the numbers because they appear for 3 seconds only, then disappear. And you need to have a dark background to see the numbers (which is why I pulled up the blinds at night).

Taking a photograph the way you are suggesting is very difficult, and needs lots of patience that I am lacking these days :)

Great idea to capture time in the air, by the way this is where I found it:

ThinkGeek is an interesting place to find novel ideas like this.

This clock can do more than just show time you can configure to have your own messages on it too. Faraz, have you tried getting a custom message up, how easy/hard is it to change, does it come with a PC interface?

Have fun!
